What is Generic Flomax and what are its uses ?

Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) is in a class of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers.

Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) causes the blood vessels to relax and expand, so that blood passes through them more easily. This effect relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.

How does Generic Flomax Works (Mechanism) ?

Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) belongs to a class of medicines called alpha-blockers. Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) works by blocking alpha-receptors in certain areas of the body.

Alpha-receptors are present on the muscle in the prostate gland. This gland is found only in men and lies at the top of the tube connecting the bladder to the outside (urethra).

• other alpha-blockers such as alfuzosin, doxazosin, phentolamine, phenoxybenzamine, prazosin, terazosin

• cimetidine
• medicines for high blood pressure
• sildenafil (doses of sildenafil higher than 25 mg should be taken at least 4 hours apart from taking tamsulosin)
• tadalafil
• vardenafil
• warfarin

Who should not take Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax)?
Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) should not be used if you have a history of drops in blood pressure when moving from sitting to standing, which causes dizziness (postural hypotension).

Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) should not be used if you suffer from severely decreased liver function.

Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax) should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.

Drowsiness and dizziness are more likely to occur after the first dose, after an increase in dose, or during hot weather or exercise. Although extremely rare in men taking Tamsulosin Hydrochloride (Generic Flomax), contact you health care provider immediately if you experience prolonged and painful erection of the penis which is unrelated to sexual activity (priapism). If not brought to immediate medical attention, priapism can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction (impotence).
