What is Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) and what are its uses?

Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) is in a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) is used to reduce inflammation and ease mild to moderate pain for such conditions as arthritis or painful menstrual cycles.

Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that is used to treat arthritis, pain, menstrual cramps, and colonic polyps.

Prostaglandins are chemicals that are important contributors to the inflammation of arthritis that causes the pain, fever, swelling and tenderness. Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) blocks the enzyme that makes prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase 2), resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation and its accompanying pain, fever, swelling and tenderness are reduced.

Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) differs from other NSAIDs in that it causes less inflammation and ulceration of the stomach and intestine and does not interfere with the clotting of blood.

Celecoxib (Generic Celecoxib) should not be taken late in pregnancy (the third trimester) because it may affect the formation of the baby's heart.
